Amanda
is a born and raised Nebraskan who grew up in a family that valued
hard work. One of her grandfathers is a retired Omaha firefighter,
and the other ran a grain and feed business in West Point. Her
father is a mechanical designer and her mother is a registered
nurse. Amanda and her sister both graduated from Nebraska public
schools and went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska
system.
Amanda has always felt a deep-rooted desire to serve her community.
While at UNL, she received degrees in both broadcasting and political
science. She chose a career in broadcast journalism because journalists
immerse themselves in their communities and tell the stories that
are important to the people that live there.
Amanda went on to report the news in Sioux City for a year. (She
lived in South Sioux City because she didn’t want to leave
Nebraska!) After that, she moved back to Lincoln to report at
10/11 News. 10/11 is not only in the heart of Lincoln, but is
in the heart of her district. Because of that, she got to know
the community of Northeast Lincoln very well.
After covering everything from murder trials, to the legislature,
to charitable events, Amanda decided she wanted to do more than
report on issues. She wanted to advocate the issues that she learned
are important to all of us. Education. Economic Growth. Community
Safety.
